It’s official, it’s June and that means it really is when summer begins, (despite what weather it may actually bring!)

Being optimistic though, we’ll experience lots of extra warmth and light which in turn brings with it super-charged weed growth. It’s a painful job, but as that widely known saying goes ‘A stitch in time…’ it’s really worth keeping on top of them so they have less opportunity to multiply.

You’ll also need to mow the lawn at least once a week from now on; summer bedding plants can go outside, along with hanging baskets and containers.

Prune back any spring-flowering shrubs. And if you’re growing tomatoes, remember to pinch out side-shoots.

Shade greenhouses to keep them cool and prevent scorch.

And most importantly – enjoy the start of the summer and all that your garden has to offer.
